Minneapolis will not host a Final Four by 2016.
The NCAA announced today the winning bids for the 2012-2016 men's basketball championships. Though Minneapolis didn't win a spot, the committee decided the losing bids were strong enough to host preliminary-round games during the cycle. Minneapolis is also hosting first and second round games this coming March.
Minneapolis hosted Final Fours in 1992 and 2001, both at the Metrodome.
Here are the winners:
• 2012 – Louisiana Superdome, New Orleans, March 31 and April 2
• 2013 – Georgia Dome, Atlanta, April 6 and 8
• 2014 – Cowboys Stadium, North Texas (Arlington/Dallas/Fort Worth), April 5 and 7
• 2015 – Lucas Oil Stadium, Indianapolis, April 4 and 6
• 2016 – Reliant Stadium, Houston, April 2 and 4
