A&E Blog

What Wicked Tune-age do you Shred to?

If it could not be gathered from the headline (and it almost certainly could not), the purpose of this blog is place A&E's skinny finger on the pulsing music vein of you - The University of Minnesota student body.

We tend to write about a lot of different types of music, the whole while hoping you guys are the least bit interested.

Have we been dead-on? Way off? Do tell, Gophers, do tell.

Use this as a forum for some taste-flexing of your own. What are your favorite bands, singers, rappers, ect.?

The Minnesota Daily wants to host a forum for discussion regarding issues and stories regarding the University of Minnesota and surrounding communities. However, the online comments should not be used to threaten or defame. This is a place for people to be heard, and want to contribute to discussion. Those who persist to use expletives, inappropriate, racist, defamatory or abusive postings risk losing the privilege to post.

techno!!

You guys should put more techno in there -- there's too much pretentious indie crud in A&E. I know many people who like electronic music and all of its subgenres (except trance, nobody likes trance)

...

I agree. What's with the constant focus on Indie music? Minneapolis definitely has a good Indie scene, but there's so much more good stuff here!

Electronic/Trip-Hop type music is getting big. Not to mention some of it's greatest bands come to the cities often! EOTO, STS9, Lotus? They've all been here within the past 3 months, yet no mention of them is anywhere in Mpls newspapers...

What about the local scene? Again, it seems like there is the most focus on local Indie music, but there is so much more here if you only look more closely! Not only would we like to read about our very own, and well-known, Minneapolis natives, like Atmosphere for example, I'm sure those of us who avidly follow the lesser-known jam bands, metal bands, and hip-hoppers would appreciate some mention of them in the A&E section.

My suggestion: steer away from First Ave. There are so many great venues in Minneapolis that host the "not-as-popular" and local music. And don't be weary of exploring a new venue, just because its a "biker crowd", a "dive" bar, or a "dirty hippy" bar. These places often have the best tunes!
