Shortly after the morning announcement of offensive coordinator Mike Dunbar resigning, the Gophers are now saying that defensive coordinator Ted Roof has left the program to take a "similar position" at Auburn.
There had been rumors of Roof going to Auburn for a while, after a successful year with the Gophers. The defense, which Roof simplified, went from being dead last in the nation in 2007 to middle of the pack in the Big Ten, and holding Indiana and Purdue to seven and six points, respectively.
Minnesota football coach Tim Brewster announced this morning that offensive coordinator Mike Dunbar has resigned and will pursue other professional interests.
Update: Despite the longer overtime period, it only took 1:38 for Patrick White to end the game with his third goal of the year. Barriball and Stoa had helpers on the play.
All-tournament team: Patrick White (F-MN), Justin Bostrom (F-MN), Wade MacLeod (F-NE), Aaron Ness (D-MN), Louis Liotti (D-NE), Brad Thiessen (G-NE)
MVP - Aaron Ness
The McAttack goal is no more already. Scoring officials gave goalie Brad Thiessen a second assist on the play, which made it 2-1 Northeastern. Now if it was McThiessen, we’d have something, but as it stands it just doesn’t make sense.
Update: Despite a strong comeback effort from Brown, Minnesota holds on tonight to win 6-2 and advance to play No. 6 Northeastern tomorrow night.
After only tallying three shots on goal in the games first 42:44, Brown’s Jordan Pietrus made shot No. 4 count. Well rather, shot No. 4 did count. The junior center scored his second goal of the season when he sent a strong shot from long range over Alex Kangas’ glove to cut the lead to 4-1. Pietrus’ goal was unassisted.
Biggest news of the night so far: Don Lucia will miss tonight’s game with Brown due to an undisclosed illness. Lucia, who hopes to return for tomorrow’s game, has never missed a game in his 22-year career as a head coach. Minnesota AD Joel Maturi will address the press box during the first intermission, so we’ll know more then.
Halftime update
It's 20 minutes before game time at the Barn as the Gophers prepare to take on number 10 Michigan State. The game opens up the Big Ten Conference season and should show the strength of both teams as contenders in both the Big Ten and the nation.
Blake Wheeler has to be feeling pretty good about his choice to turn pro after last year. The Boston Bruins are sitting atop the Northeast Division and are 9-1-0 in their last ten games.
Wheeler scored twice in the first five minutes of last night's game with St. Louis - a game the Bruins ended up winning 6-3. The Gophers scoring champ last year made it 1-0 less than 2:30 into the game and extended the lead to 2-0 with the short-handed goal seen here:

Well, the Gophers proved that their undefeated record was no fluke.
In their biggest nonconference game in several years, the unranked Gophers upset No. 9 Louisville 70-64 Saturday.
Not only did they upset them -- which should silence concerns about their previously-light nonconference schedule -- but they did it convincingly. Minnesota never trailed after Louisville’s 2-0 lead, and only let the game get tied once (11-11). They led by double digits for most of the game, though Louisville did pull close at the end.
