The Gophers went to the locker room after the first period down 2-0 against Robert Morris even though they out shot the Colonials 18-5. The Colonial’s first goal came after first year Jocelyne Lamoureux received a hooking penalty. Robert Morris’ senior Morgan Beikirch shot after a pass from senior Megan Picinic that went in on the stick side of Minnesota’s starting senior goaltender Kim Hanlon at 8:02. After working down low in the Gopher’s zone, first-year Brianna Delaney scored the Colonial’s second goal of the period at 17:46.

Minnesota started the second period with three consecutive penalties. Robert Morris capitalized on the third with a power play goal unassisted by junior Jacki Gibson to make the score 3-1. Twenty-two seconds later a scrum in front left the Gophers with a 5-4 advantage. Using a cycling power-play, first-year Anne Schleper scored her first goal as a Gopher at 6:42 with assists coming from first-years Monique and Jocelyn Lamoureux to bring the score to 3-1.

Sophomore Jenny Lura took over goal tending duties in the third because all three goalies will get two periods of play, Coach Brad Frost said on Thursday. The Gophers pulled their goalie with two minutes left in third after a Robert Morris penalty to gain a 6-4 advantage. The tactic worked as sophomore Emily West scored for the Gophers to bring the game to 3-2. With Lura still out and a minute left in the game, a Gopher goal was waived off and the Gophers ran out of time to tie the score.
