Hi Everyone,
Welcome to the new mndaily.com. For the past four months a significant amount of development has gone into the site redesign you now see. In addition to having a sexy new look, the entire site, including over 40,000 articles and 700 employees, has been ported to Drupal, an open source content management system. This means that content will be easier to find, updates will come more frequently, and functionality will be added at a faster pace.
There are already a lot of new features on mndaily.com. Almost everything can be commented on. It's easy to get syndicated content on just the things you care about. It's also incredibly easy to contact any reporter or employee at the Daily. Best of all, the entire site is cleanly organized and content is easy to find.
We're considering this first release a beta, so there will be a lot unimplemented features. Stay tuned to the mndaily.com Development Blog for updates. There will be a lot of exciting new things appearing on mndaily.com and you won't want to miss it.

Fix the Frontpage
Either the new MN Daily is not loading right/still getting the new site conversion completed or the frontpage when you enter the MN Daily has way too much white/empty space.
Re: Fix the Frontpage
Yeah you're right. We've been working beyond overtime to try to get a version of the redesign live in time for the beginning of the school year. The site is going to look slightly less than perfect for the first few days.
archives
Please tell me how to access the archives. I keep getting the message "page not found."
Thanks.
No MN Daily archives ....
I am also concerned that the Daily's
archives are off-line. Please restore
this important feature. Thanks, Paul
The Archives will be up soon
Moving the archives to the new site is a daunting task. Nonetheless, we are in the process of doing this and already migrating the old stories that were in our database. To give you an idea of the scope of this, there were over 40,000 stories from 1995 on alone. Soon, the archives will be in place again and be fully browseable.
Please allow the weather info
Please allow the weather info box at the top to be clickable again as I enjoyed reading the extended outlook and detailed forecast.
Sports blog??
Where are all the blogs, and why are they not easily accessible from the home page?
can't find
I miss the search feature. Am I just not noticing where it is at ?
The search feature will
The search feature will return! Do not worry!
When will the search feature
When will the search feature return? Can you please be more specific than stating "The search feature will return! Do not worry!" Perhaps you could give the readership an estimated date?
another option
there is another option if you're in desperate need to search. i often prefer this over using a website's own search tool. Go to google, click on advanced search and near the bottom, type mndaily.com in the domain field. plug in whatever you're searching for in the other fields and let google do the work...
MN Daily Cartoon
I'm wondering where I can find the daily cartoon in the online version of the MN Daily? I've been looking on a daily basis and can't find it.
Where did the web page go
Where did the web page go that showed all the specials at the bars?
email options
I am a Minnesota parent and often email my daughter articles I have read and I have noticed there is no email feature on the article page -- unless I am missing it. Thank you
Online department writing
Great job on all the new stuff. Love the ideas.
Just a recommendation: never, ever write anything without sending it to the copy desk first. The grammar and syntax in your "The new mndaily.com" is bad.
Unprofessional writing reflects on the perception of everything -- including the quality of the web site.
Good luck with the new changes!
on writing well
ditto to the above comment. also, just to note... things like "pre-law" and "pre-med" are not majors (rather, someone's a 'genetics student who plans to attend medical school"). made me cringe a little to see it in a recent story.
but, love the changes online. can't wait to see the final, finished version.
Contact Information
How do I contact the Daily via telephone? I have a story idea, and your "Contact Us" page is "not available." Am I supposed to pick up a hard copy of the paper to look for that information?
I think it is great that you are updating the site, but not having a "Search" feature available after the school year has started is not a good thing.
You can contact the daily at
You can contact the daily at (612) 627-4080

The contact page is working, and you can link to it from the bottom of the page, or by going to mndaily.com/contact.
Hello from a former Daily EIC ...
I saw this article in the Strib and thought of the Daily ...

With regard to your archives, perhaps you should look into a partnership with Google? It seems they're offering publishers large and small the opportunity to put their full archives online. I know the Daily has provided some searchable archives in the past, but this may be a more robust option?
At any rate, it's good to see the ol' fishwrap is still running strong.
WHERE IS THE MOTHER FREAKING SEARCH FUNCTION!!?!?!??!!
New Minnesota Daily? Yeah, looks nice...WHERE IS THE MOTHER EFFING SEARCH FUNCTION so I can find the old articles I need when I'm digging into some issue, and I need to use a search term and pull up old Daily articles?
No, MOTHER EFFERS, don't tell me to search on Google. I need a search function like the one you had on the old Minn Daily website. WTF!?!?!??!?!?!?! Thanks for EFFING IT UP, geeks, giving me something that LOOKS GOOD but can't do what I need!!!!!!
And the readers are supposed to know?
How about an answer from the editors and stuff like that I was looking for the same thing...????
Your verification doesn't EFFING WORK RIGHT!!!!!
Oh, and I should mention...your "CAPTCHA" verification doesn't work right. I had to enter codes over and over--half a dozen times--before it finally recognized I was entering the right code. I'm sure I'll have to do it AGAIN to post THIS comment. It's not clear whether a person should enter the SPACES in the CAPTCHA. Whether you enter the spaces or not...the CAPTCHA keeps messing up, not recognizing a correct response. A lot of people would just give up.
Your new format LOOKS great.
But the guts of it--the technical junk we need--is ALL EFFED UP. Great job, geeks, on effing it up and calling it PROGRESS.
Oh, P.S., some people don't WANT a "preview" before posting, they want the option of just pressing POST.
Search Function
The old search function was very useful & friendly.
RSS Feed
Dear Daily, ever since your new redesign, the RSS feed doesn't work right. I've updated the feed numerous times in 4 different readers and it never works in any of them. I enjoyed so much sitting at my computer reading the daily while eating breakfast in the morning, but now I can't even do that. Please make the RSS work again.
RSS Feed
The RSS feed has not worked for me for months I tried several times today and it still doesn't work. I didn't see any info from MN Daily about the problem.
Submissions to Backtalk
Hey I was wondering if there's a place where you can submit thing to Network and Dr. Date somewhere like you had on your old site. Either I'm missing it or it's not up yet. Thanks for the info!
SEARCHING IN VAIN -- Did your
SEARCHING IN VAIN -- Did your mother teach you to talk like that? You'll get farther if you tone it down a bit.
Please save the PDF archive!
When you restore the archives on the new site, please remember the centennial project, the PDFs of every Daily in the 20th century, which used to be at mndaily.com/archive. Those are a priceless historical resource. I know of journalism teachers across the country who have used them.

Archives
I still don't see that the archives have been restored. Is there an estimated completion date for this?
Thank you.
Archives?
Are the archives EVER coming back???
